The Magic Crystal of Life

“Dark!” I whispered to my dragon. “We need you!”

I hear Bryn replying to her dragon in her dragon’s language. “SoNGnA!” She stirred her pot with a stick on the cave floor, then looked at me. “Miss, Devin. My dragon and I found a cure. We may think it will work.”

“Thank the dragons.” I let out a relieved sigh. “You think?”

“Yes. 99.9 percent for sure.” She clapped her hands to signal her dragon to make a bowl out of leaves. She turned to my dragon. “Don’t worry Dark, everything will be okay. And If it doesn't work- we will find another cure.”

“Thank you Bryn. Can you take care of this?” I ask her. “I have to get some more berries outside the cave for breakfast.”

“Of course. We have to eat up for our journey.”

When I left the cave, I did what I was supposed to do. Pick the berries and go. There are some animals there, but they are friendly and kind. Rattle Rattle! I shake the berries off, and grab them.

“Rebbit! Croak! (I am back!)” One frog said to me.

“Sorry Trish, I have to go deliver these berries to my friend and our dragons. If you may not know- Dark is sick and we are working on a cure.”

“Rubit! Croak Gro! (Oh, how bad that is. It is alright, I have to go anyway. Stay healthy!)”

“I sure will.”

When I got back to the cave Bryn was starving.

“There’s my favorite animal talker!” Her tummy grumbled. “I am starving.”

“Don’t worry I got enough berries for all of us.” My face darkened. “Where is Dark?”

“Sleeping with Mush.” She held out bowls made out of leaves. “I don’t think you are going to hold that many berries in your hand. Count them and split them equally.” She made the number 4 with her hands. “Among 4 of us.”

“Alright.” I counted 28. “28 berries. 7 each.” I plopped 7 in each bowl. When I sat down- Bryn was already finished.

“Done. Work to do now.” Oh how she is a hard worker. “I’ll wake Mush and Dark for breakfast.” She looked at me. “Not to mention Dark is cured! But..”

Drooping Dragons- What is it?

She continued. “But, he needs to get his energy.”

“Oh.” I fanned myself with my hands. “I thought something happened to him. You know me right?”

“I would have the same reaction but I could trust my friend at any cost.” She looked at Mush and crouched. “Wake up! Breakfast time Mush.” She said in a soothing voice. Then she patted her on the back. She looked at Dark. “Dark? Are you feeling okay? I’ll bring your breakfast.” She got up, brought Dark’s bowl and fed it to him. “Good boy!”

“GoFgNI! (Hey Mush!)” I said happily. “Ndcv? AcTK? (Are you ready for our journey? Do you have enough energy?)”

“FnO bE FnO! (Yes, and Yes!)” She replied, when she finished her food.

“GnBoD, bE h FdVn DfoJ! (I finished my food too, and I am ready to go on our journey!)”

“Dfv GfEE! (Me too!)”

“Dark finished his berries. We are off to go to Royal Academy.” Bryn grabbed her rucksack on the floor and zipped it open. “I have the wattle bottles and the back up plan. Plus the food and tools that we may need. Handy.” Bryn said.

“Great. Now, Bryn- since you forget stuff often, we practiced your memory yesterday. Tell me what journey we are going to do.” I walked over to Dark. “When he stands up, you are going to tell me the answer.” I looked at my poor dragon. “Stand up whenever you want Dark.”

-10 Minutes later-

Finally he stood up, and felt energetic. “Awesome! The cure worked! Now, tell me the answer. Bryn?” She was asleep. “Wake up Bryn!” I yell. “You have to tell me the answer.”

“Of course. Miss, Devin.” She scratched her head. “To get the ‘Magic Crystal of Life’ that the fairy godmother stole?”

“Yes but there is more. You don’t remember?” She replied no. “Okay then. We first got to go to Little Red Riding Hood/ Red. Then she will tell us information about the fairy godmother. After that she’ll send us a carriage and a pumpkin coach -for our kindness- to RA (Royal Academy) with disguises.

We will put those on, and sneak into Rubina's/ fairy godmother’s office and get the ‘Magic Crystal of Life’ and call the Dwarf Police Squad to arrest her. Then we will go back to the cave, find the statue and put the Crystal inside of it. That, finally- will bring back our parent’s lives.” A tear came out of Bryn’s eye. “Don’t cry, we will get them no matter what happens to us.”

“No we won’t.” Bryn said sadly. “Just, everything won’t go as planned. Not exactly as we wanted. The Dwarf Police Squad won’t believe she is so terrible. Red won’t give us disguises or a carriage.” She wiped her tears. “I saw it in the future.”

“But,” I said surprisingly. “I thought you said it was a low chance!”

“It is. I just got lucky.” She put down her gear and sat on the cave floor. “We can’t do anything. Nothing to change the future.”

“That is not true!” I said with confidence. “The future is not set in stone. We will do something.”

“Like what?” Bryn said, with a bit of confidence. “Accept that we will never see our parents?” And now it’s gone.

“Maybe, just maybe- whenever we have paths or decisions we always go opposite. Unless we know it’s the right way.” I clapped my hands for myself of a brilliant idea I came up with. “Do you have the map that you made with tree stick marks? What did I told you to do?”

“Ye-”

“GhQoY hsDaZX-qiOHK? (Are you done with your chit-chatting?)” Mush said.

“FnO, GnKQo HsDuN KliT? (Yes, are you done?)” Dark agrees.

“Can you translate? I only know a bit.” Bryn asked me.

“Alright. I am 100% sure Mush said ‘Are you done with your chit-chatting?’ and Dark agrees and says ‘Yes, are you done?’”

“Okay. We are trying! Work to do! Play with the rocks.” She waited for them to go play. “Oh, forgot.” She looked at me with a smile. “Can you translate that please?”

I laughed. “Of course.” I looked at Mush and Dark. “FgHnbV. DeSw FaErD! GnHgD Fj! FgNbcXZ.” I told them.

“FgHnbV, JkXZ VenRa. (Okay, Miss Devin.)” Mush said.

“GonVc FelF VenRa oVcLy. (Please call me Devin only.)”

“FnO!” They both agreed and started running to the rocks in the corner.

“That situation is clear..” Bryn's eyes widened. “Umm. What are you staring at, Bryn?”

“How you just talk to my dragon, Mush so easily.” She looked at me in interest. “You easily just talk to her and she follows right away.” Bryn gave me puppy eyes. “Can you teach me? Pretty please! I want to talk with Mush too!”

“I wasn't going to say no, but I have to teach you another time.” I touched my parents photo on the left to me. “We have to do what we want to do. Even if we fail.”

“I- Never mind.” She got up from the ground. “You are right. We have to do what's best for us. And getting our parents back is what we want.” She finally remembered something that was important. “What was the plan before Mush interrupted?”

“I forgot about that. Thanks for remembering.”

“Welcome.”

“So I think it is…” I thought hard, and put my hand on my head. “Aha! Whenever we have paths or decisions we always go opposite. Unless we know it’s the right way.”

“Yeah. I remember hearing that.”

“I think it’s time to go on our journey, Bryn.”
