All About Jaguars

Today is all about Jaguars enjoy

Introduction:

In the fall of 2015, a giant spotted cat wandered in front of a hidden camera in the mountains of southern Arizona and into history. It was the first footage captured of the only known wild jaguar living in the United States. Jaguar once lived in parts of what is now the United States. There are old reports of Jaguars in California, Arizona, NewMexico, Texas, and Louisiana. Since 1997, jaguars have been roaming north from Mexico onto the same land where their ancestors once lived. Scientist says all seven that have been sighted are males. Male jaguars are the ones that typically find new territories, in order to start their own families, if females will follow. students at an Arizona, middle school where the mascot is a jaguar held a vote to name the big cat on camera. They settled on El Jefe, Which means "the boss" in Spanish. Within months the video footage of El Jefe had been seen by more than twenty million people around the world. He was a star.

What Is A Jaguar:

Jaguars are the third-largest wild cat in the world and the largest in the western hemisphere. Only lions and tigers are bigger than jaguars. Jaguars have thick legs, a large chest, and jaws that are capable of crushing a skull. In fact, that how they often kill their prey. Their yellowish fur is covered in a grouping of spotted called rosettes. People often confuse jaguars and leopards, but it's easy to tell them apart. Jaguars have spots in the middle of their rosettes, and leopards don't. Jaguars can weigh 150 to 250 pounds (68-113kg). They can be as long as 7 feet (2m) from the nose to the tip of their tail. Despite their size, they are stealthy, fast, and even pretty good at climbing trees. These traits make them perfect predators in the wild.

Endangered Predators:

More than four hundred thousand jaguars lived in the wild. Their range stretched from the forest and swamps of South and Central America to drier parts of the southern United States. Over the past century or so, the number of jaguars has declined. Humans are large to blame. Sometimes the killing was on purpose-hunting, for example. Jaguars have long been hunted for their beautiful fur. Scientists estimate that in 1960 and 1970 for instance, as many as 15000 jaguars were killed each year. Some people kill jaguars for another reason, too. They sometimes dislike jaguars and other large predators such as bears; wolfs; lions; and tigers. That's partly because many people fear them, it's also because predators need to eat. They sometimes find an easy meal with livestock such as cows or sheep. Some ranchers worry that jaguars might kill their livestock which ranchers need to make a living. Yet even when people don't mean to kill jaguars their actions sometimes do. For instance; when people cut down forests for other uses; they also destroy jaguar's habitat. As a result, only 15000 jaguars are left on the planet and scientists say that numbers continue to drop.

Changing Attitudes:

Attitudes about jaguars and other large predators have changed as scientists learn more about them. Scientists have taught us that jaguars play an important role in nature. As a top predator; they help keep a population of other animals in balance. That helps make sure there's enough food for all species. Since 1972 jaguars in the United State has been protected as endangered species. That means it's illegal to kill them and that the government must protect them and their habitat. In 2014 the U.S government named 7,50,000 acres (3035 square kilometers) as critical habitat for jaguars in Arizona and New Mexico. As a result, extra care must be taken with the land if people are going to change it.

Conclusion:

Not everyone likes large predators roaming wild, but few people can deny jaguars are fascinating.

The return of jaguars in the united states is expecting people who love big cats. Many people want to see jaguars back in some of the lands where they used to live. A lot of people don't want jaguars to be extinct. Let's hope that we see jaguars in the future.
