A Normal Day Chapter One Of a Great Series

Riiiiing! My alarm clock rang. It was the first day of 4th grade in a new school. I hated school. You just learn all day until it’s a weekend which is only 2 days of fun. The other school that I went to suspended me because I got in a fight with 1st graders. I got out of bed so sloppy that I fell down. I was not ready for this school year at all.

I wobbled to my closet to find some casual clothes to wear. I found this red dress with yellow and blue flowers on it that I wore a year ago. But that was too fancy, so I decided to wear a green shirt and some jeans. I walked downstairs to meet my mother and my younger sister. “Hello dear,” my mother greeted me. “Good morning mother.”

“Well, I expected you to wear something good at least. It is still your first day of 4th grade! I am so surprised about how fast you are growing!” she said. I did not respond to her and walked to the pantry. “Gracy!” My sister rushed down the stairs and hugged me. “Good morning Lyla, what is so special?” I pushed her away from me. “Dad is coming home from Texas tonight! I was on the phone with him!” I was so shocked.

My dad was the best thing that happened to me. He was my favorite parent, even though my mom is nice. He would play board games with me, he never yelled at me, and he cooked amazing food! “What time at night?” I quickly asked. “I don’t know, but he said so!” My sister came back to me for another hug. This time I hugged her back. “Aren’t you happy?” My mom said bursting out. I did not think what reaction she had since that was her husband. “I am so excited! I can’t wait!” After that she ran to her study room to work. My mom is so childish sometimes.

I pushed Lyla away and grabbed my favorite cereal. “Sissy,” Lyla said, with her cereal ready on the breakfast table. “can you tell me what 2nd grade is like? I am nervous. Were you nervous?” I grabbed a bowl from the cupboard, and replied “Well, I wish I could tell you,” I said. “but I skipped 2nd grade so I never had experience. But I promise you it’s gonna be fine. Don’t be nervous.” I opened the refrigerator and grabbed milk from the right pocket. “Okay,” she said. I poured my cereal and then opened the milk cap. I poured the milk in, then put the cap back on and the milk and the cereal away. I got a spoon from the dishwasher and brought the cereal to the breakfast table.

I took a bite of my food. I sure love the first bite of cereal. It’s so fresh from all that milk. I wonder what genius made cereal and milk combined. “What dreams did you have?” Lyla asked, as if she was trying to make a conversation. “Not going to 4th grade.” And what I said was true. I hate school. I don’t want to go to it. We had a silent breakfast. Only the spoons clinking in our mouths.

After me and Layla ate our food, we both raced upstairs to our bedrooms to brush our teeth. I grabbed my brush and toothpaste from the top wooden drawer from the bathroom. I opened the cap of the toothpaste and squeezed the toothpaste on my brush. I brushed my teeth as normal. When I finished I spit the toothpaste out, with my hands sore from brushing hard, and grabbed my cup from the granite counter and filled it up with water. Then I put it in my mouth and swished it in my mouth. Swish Swish! Finally I put the cup down, back where it was, and spit the water out. I reached for the towel on the right hand side and ran out of the bathroom and into the bedroom.

I grabbed my pink backpack with flowers and hearts that were blue and checked if I got everything I needed. Normally on the first days of school, I don’t know what to pack. So my mom wrote me a checklist to check off for school.

  • Science, Math, ELA, Social Studies notebook and folder

  • Homework folder

  • Computer school provided you with

  • Books (If you have any)

  • Agenda

  • Calculator

  • Some extra markers or colored pencils

  • YOUR PERSONALITY

I don’t know if I should check off the last one. Everything has to be hard- for me.

I packed all the supplies that my mom told me to pack. Or- the teacher. I zipped my backpack and held it. “OWW!” I screamed. It was the heaviest thing I ever carried. I think the computer told all the other things that are not heavy to be heavy. I somehow and somewhy put the backpack on my shoulders. It actually didn’t feel that heavy-surprisingly. Tip: It feels better on your shoulders carrying it.

I walked downstairs to see my sister waiting for me at the doorstep. “I won! You’re a slowpoke!” She said, I don’t really care though. I am slow in general, and I accept that. “Okay, anyways.. Did you pack your lunch?” I asked. “We are running a bit late.” “Yeah,” Lyla said. “I packed yours too. Since I knew you were going to be late.” She said proudly. I shook my head disapprovingly knowing that she made my least favorite food. I hate when she packs my lunch. I grabbed my lunchbox that was on the counter and grabbed my shoes from the ‘shoe closet’ which was not far away.

I put my shoes on and headed to the doorstep. “Gracy, we have to go! Your lateness is going to cost us to miss the bus!” Lyla said. “Faster!” “Okay! I am trying here,” I argued. I opened the door and a gust of wind blew in my face. “Ahhh!” I screamed. The breeze got into my eye. I hate when that happens. “TIME FOR SCHOOL!” Lyla yelled and rushed out of the house.

To be continued.... Stay tuned!
